Water Requirements
The following is the standard specifications to be followed by a licensed plumber in the matter of water connection.
A detailed drawing of the water service, b-box, and tap shall be provided at the time of inspection. The drawing shall list measurements from a fixed object such as corners of homes, existing fire hydrants, water valves, etc.
Only K copper seamless copper tubing is to be installed.
Water Line
- Measurements from house to b-box and from b-box to property line – 1” diameter Type K copper pipe, if over 100’, pipe should be 1.25” diameter.
- A full circle stainless steel cc water main clamp is required (no direct tapping of the plastic water main). This must be inspected by South Palos Township Sanitary District prior to backfilling.
- A Mueller 1 ½ inch Minneapolis style b-box is required.
- All corporation stops and round ways shall be Mueller.
Water Meter shall be installed at the expense of the resident served.
Water Meter Remote Wiring Access
- The installation of a pipe with an interior diameter of at least one-half (1/2) inch, in the exterior wall of the building, connecting the inside of the building, at a point within two (2) feet of the water meter, to the exterior of the building, so that the wiring that connects the remote meter read touchpad, to the meter, can easily run from the meter, through the pipe, to the exterior of the building is required.
RPC Valve
- A backflow prevention valve shall be installed. Such stop valves shall have a handle or wrench attached thereto for purpose of turning same so that the water may be turned off in case of leaks.
In regard to all new construction subsequent to December 1, 1993 a properly sized thermal expansion tank shall be located in the cold-water supply as near the water heater as possible and with no shut off valve or other device between the heater and the expansion tank. In the case of remodeling or renovation to alter, renovates or replaces existing plumbing relative to the water supply system subsequent December 1, 1993, a properly sized thermal expansion tank, as referenced in the preceding sentence, or a properly sized relief valve shall be installed.
Inspection and Testing
The new water service must be pressure tested at 100 psi for 5 minutes and witnessed by South Palos Township Sanitary District personnel. A 48-hour notice must be given to South Palos Township Sanitary District to set up an appointment for inspection and sealing water meter, and installation of touch pad on the front of the house.
Property shall be cleared of hazards and unsafe conditions.
