About The District
The South Palos Township Sanitary District (the District) provides sanitary sewer service and the delivery of potable water to the residents of the unincorporated areas of Palos Park, a portion of the unincorporated areas of Palos Heights, and a portion of the unincorporated area of Orland Park.
Contrary to what you may think, The District is not part of the village of Palos Park, Palos Township, the City of Palos Heights, or the City of Orland Park. We are a separate government agency.
The District handles approximately 523 individual residential customer water accounts & 591 sanitary sewer accounts. The District is also responsible for the maintenance and repair of all of the sanitary sewer lines within the District that are not the property and responsibility of an individual property owner or the MWRD.
Most of the revenue the District receives is generated from user charges, based on water consumption and sewer usage. The balance of revenue comes from the District’s tax levy and connection fees. The water, sewer and rehab surcharge revenues are used to pay for the cost of water purchased from the City of Palos Heights via the Village of Alsip, Via the City of Chicago, as well as the operation, maintenance and improvements of the water and sanitary sewer system.
The District is governed by a three-member Board of Trustees. The Board meets on the third Wednesday of the month, at 6:30 p.m. at the District Office located at 8102 W 119th Street Unit 1130 unless otherwise posted. Meetings are open to the public.
The District currently employs 6 people, three of them have been with the District for over 15 years. The continuous service of our staff members ensures that they are knowledgeable of the physical need of the system in order to keep the water flowing.
Our administrative staff is friendly and knowledgeable and will work with our residents to solve any problem they may experience.
Our answering service is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year. Call 708-448-3166 to report water main breaks, sanitary sewer problems or any other water/sanitary sewer related emergency.
